Fall: CRM 2013 Frequently Asked Questions. As the title suggests, it covers many of the common questions we’d gotten about this upcoming release. If you missed that post or would like to revisit it, you can find it here.
At the end of that blog, I promised our readers that I’d update it as more information became available. So today, I’d like to make good on that promise and answer a few more questions concerning the installation and timing of this update, as well as important system requirements.
Q:I am a Dynamics CRM Online subscriber, what do I need to do to get this update and when will it take place?
A:Dynamics CRM Online users will automatically be upgraded to CRM 2013 during a 90 day upgrade window, beginning in October 2013 after the new version is officially released. Microsoft will send users an automated email with their organization’s scheduled update date. Subsequent reminder emails will be sent 90, 30, 15, and 7 days before the update begins.
Q:Can I change the update date that’s been assigned to my organization?
A:Yes, if you need to reschedule your Dynamics CRM 2013 update, please follow the steps listed below:
If you use Microsoft online services portal to sign in to CRM Online (example: yourname@yourorg.onmicrosoft.com):
- Sign in to Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
- On the nav bar, click or tap Microsoft Dynamics CRM> Settings. Then click or tap Settings> Administration> Resources In Use.
- Click or tap Reschedule update to start the Reschedule wizard.
Or, if you use Windows Live ID to sign in to CRM Online (example: yourname@live.com):
- Sign in to Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
- On the nav bar, click or tap Microsoft Dynamics CRM> Settings. Then click or tap Settings> Administration> Subscription Management.
- Click or tap Reschedule update to start the Reschedule wizard.

Q:Will my CRM system be unavailable during the upgrade? If so, how long will this last?
A: According to the same Microsoft TechNet article I referenced above, “The service update will happen during a 12-hour window, and during that time your organization might be unavailable for several hours.” Microsoft will notify you when the update is complete and your new CRM is ready for use.
Q:What if I’m an on-premise Dynamics CRM user, how do I get this update?
A:On premise users must install the updates on their own systems; this is not handled automatically by Microsoft. However, if you need assistance with this our experts will be happy to help! Contact us today. It is also important to note that in order to be eligible to upgrade to Dynamics CRM 2013 on-premise users must currently be running Dynamics CRM 2011 or Version 4 and hold active Microsoft Software Assurance. Version 4 users will need to upgrade to 2011 before installing Dynamics 2013.
Q:Are there any important legacy systems that will no longer be supported once I upgrade to Dynamics CRM 2013?
A:Yes, here’s a list of some of the most notable changes:
- Windows XP to run either Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Outlook or the web application.
- Microsoft Office 2003
- Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 for email routing and tracking.
- Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 WebDAV protocol for email routing and tracking. (Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Exchange Web Services (EWS) will still be supported).
